In all cases, take a pregnancy test on your starting date and only start if the test is negative.
Starting mifepristone 50 mg:
- Not using any contraception?
Start on the first day of your period. You are immediately protected.
- Using the pill, patch, or ring?
Start immediately after your last pill, patch, or ring, without a break week. You are immediately protected.
- Have a hormonal IUD or implant?
Start on the day it is removed.
Use condoms for 7 days after removal; after that, you are protected.
Make sure you have not had unprotected sex in the 7 days before removal.
- Have a copper IUD?
Have the IUD removed just before your expected period (but not within 7 days after unprotected sex).
Ideally, remove the IUD within 5 days after your period starts.
Start mifepristone on the first day of your period. You are immediately protected.
No additional contraception is needed.
